Interpreting the word “SEXIST/M” in The Online Series
I’m Sophie a 19 years old self-taught Mexican artist who has always been an art lover, however in the last two years, I have intensified my study and creation of art due to my growing interest and passion of learning and understanding myself and society.
I believe that some ideas and feelings cannot be expressed in words, but instead through with images, compositions, colors, shapes, sizes, etc. Marc Chagall once said, "art is above all a state of the soul". I identify myself with this quote, because trough art I express the deeper ideas, though emotions of my life and the way I experience what we call human life. During the process of my artworks, I have learned about contents related to reflection and doubt of the human being, social injustices, feelings that question the normalizations existing in our society. I have also been able to acquire the following skills: digital art, painting, drawing, video art, and performance. The most difficult part of these processes has been the conceptualization and formalization of floating ideas arising in my crazy mind within my social and personal contexts. I'm looking to enhance my passion for art and life; art is an aspect of change in society and I am a human being full of madness, madness to feel, to express and to create. Currently, I’m involved in projects such as murals, reflection cartoons, stencil, and painting. I’m always in the search of growing and learning to become a better version of myself every day and not just myself, but also to make a difference in our society.
I am a person who wants to live life successfully. I’m open and like to get to know new and people and cultures, and I also want to gain new experiences. At the same time, I like to achieve my goals, yet it’s not just about achieving the goal but also the way and the ride. I'm quite the positive person and going ahead is always part of my philosophy of life. High interest as well as abilities in plastic arts. Selected for Flammantes 19th edition showcasing two original paintings. Selected for the Kunst-Gala in 2019 and 2020 in the German school in Mexico, Colegio Aleman Alexander von Humboldt. I was a speaker in Humboldt's TEDx. My talk is called artichoke heart. I was also a speaker in Humboldt Habla 2020. Selected for the Festival Museum of Dead Words with the concept Sexism for October 2020. If I am honest, when I feel something in my heart or something bothers me, I reflect, I investigate, I look for the best way to formalize it, I am an apprentice of life and emotions and what I paint, I paint to connect with society, to give a message, to concretize and to heal.
My influencers are:
• Diego Rivera, a Mexican muralist, who gave the Mexican history life through his artwork.
• Banksy, an anonymous artist who makes the world reflect about normalizations in our society.
• Frida Kahlo, she expresses her pain, culture and feelings through her artwork
