Interpreting the word “Truth” in The Online Series

For Dominican born and New York City raised visionary illustrator Demostina, the world is her canvas and the universe her palette. Driven by music, human interaction, and the metaphysical nature of the feminine, Demostina has been concocting pieces all over New York City since 2002. One of the few pioneers of live painting in New York City’s music scene, Demostina has created large paintings on canvas at some of the city’s most respected music venues such as the legendary Bowery Poetry Club and The Knitting Factory. Demo as she is warmly referred to by many, is a graduate from Parsons School of Design where she studied Illustration and later attended New York University where she received an M.A. in Art Education.  Her artwork has been exhibited in various spaces throughout the US including Women Made Gallery in Chicago and has been featured in FOAM Magazine.  Demostina was crowned 2008 Femme Fatale Art Battle Champion in a friendly competition with 7 other New York City top female artists.

An artist both visually and musically, Demostina has a deep affinity for color and texture. A classically trained artist with urban sensibilities, Demostina explores her themes through the use of mixed media and often incorporates amorphous characters into her work. Her process includes weaving vibrant backgrounds with newspaper, gift wrapping tissue sheets, rub-on lettering, brown lunch bags etc... She sets no boundaries to her selection of collage materials. Demostina finds joy in juxtaposing fragments of various paper textures against blocks of color. Her backgrounds, in essence, coexist as a separate "composition" that simultaneously creates the unexpected depth contained within the subject of her foreground.

Her enigmatic illustration series The Female Factor examines and celebrates the complex nature of the feminine both physically and spiritually. This multi-talented soul takes your hands, eyes, and ears: and walks you through the halls of music, the vicious cycle of the human condition, the mystery of the feminine and the metaphysical – reminding us that we are continuously evolving as entities of the universe.
